- Find your condensate drain line outside (usually a white PVC pipe near the outdoor unit). It should be dripping steadily when the AC is running. If it’s bone dry while your AC is clearly working hard, that water may be backing up somewhere else instead.
- If you have an emergency shutoff float switch, check that it hasn’t already tripped and shut your system down — that’s actually the switch doing its job to protect your home.
- Peek in the drain pan under your indoor unit, if it’s accessible. Standing water there means the line isn’t draining like it should.
